Using "Zombie Bombs" may be a tempting prospect when fighting the undead. However, you must realize that for many reasons this might not be practical or effective. Remember, destroying the brain is the purpose of all zombie weapons... so let's go ahead and look at what an explosive is and how it is used.
The military describes an explosive as "Substances that violently change into gaseous form and release pressure and heat equally in all directions." What this means is that a explosion's purpose is to not create fireballs, like you have seen in movies. However, fire is a side effect of some explosions.
So what this will tell you is that the purpose of explosives is not to just kill. They can be used in a wide variety of purposes. With explosives, you are only limited by your imagination.
When dealing with military explosives there are many types that all have their purposes. You will find that military explosives sometimes are not powerful as civilian types. This is due to the military looking for explosives that are, "Insensitive to shock and friction, Stable in extreme climates and suitable for damp conditions". Here is a short but incomplete list of some explosives:
This is a question that must be handled EXTREMELY carefully. First, let me say that in order to detonate a High Explosive, another High Explosive must be used. Now this may sound like you can't set off a Zombie Bomb, but that isn't true. Remember what I said about RDX being highly sensitive and powerful? This is the explosive compound found in blasting caps.
Blasting caps must be inserted into the explosive and set off one of two ways. The first is a Non-Electrical firing system that using time fuse. The time fuse is ignited through an M60 fuse ignitor. When the burning time fuse reaches the blasting cap, the blasting cap explodes. This in turn causes what is called a sympathetic explosion in your zombie bomb.
The second method of detonating your zombie bomb is with an electrical firing system. This is instantaneous but is also a lot more dangerous if precautions are not taken. An electrical blasting cap is inserted into the zombie bomb and is set off through the use of a firing device. The firing device sends a strong electrical current to the blasting cap and that starts the detonation.
So far with the broad overview of explosives, you can see that they are not completely appropriate for zombie combat. Explosives are extremely useful against humans during war. This effectiveness is greatly reduces when applied to zombies. This is of course if you don't manage to blow yourself up in the process of construction the charges.
Next week we will be continueing this articles on page 2. Our second page will go more into what kinds of explosives to use, when not to use explosives and what kinds of zombie bombs will be the most effective.
**Zombie Informer will not write articles related to harming people and we do not advocate it in any way. The purpose of this article is to orient our fans in the dangers of explosives when dealing with zombies. Should you attempt to construct explosives without professional training and a license to do so, you are an idiot and commiting a felony**
