ZOMBIE KATANA
The Katana is one of the most deadly and finely crafted swords in history. Originating in Feudal Japan, these were the primary weapons of the Samurai warrior class. They were known for their legendary blades that have the ability to slice through a person in one swing. The high strength and razor sharp blade is why we are recommending the katana as the #1 Zombie Sword.
Katana Construction
The Katana was built using a blade, pegs, handle, blade collar, spacers, and guard. The blade is approximately 23.6-28.7″ long and single edged. The pegs go through the handle and the blade to hold the assembly together. The handle is constructed of wood and is long enough for two hands. The blade collar fits at the end of the handle against two notches on the blade. Spacers are basically washers used in the handle assembly construction. The guard protects the hand and is usually very ornate.
Katana Blade
The blade of the katana is a perfect slicing machine. The Samurai used to grade a new katana based on how many people it could slice through in a single blow. They would test this on captured criminals. There are reports that in a single swing, a samurai was able to slice through four people. You will not find that kind of ability in a machete.
These blades were built with extreme attention to detail by master sword smiths. The katana was built over many days by heating and folding steel. Carbon was added during the process to provide additional strength. The gentle backward slope along with a diamond hard, razor sharp edge makes this blade perfect for decapitating zombies.
Katana Handle
The handle of the katana is built using wood, bamboo and metal. This is then wrapped in a decorative yet functional manner. The length of the handle allows for the use of both hands. This lets the user apply more force and precision in each strike.
Weight
The katana weighs about 3 lbs, depending on the length. This weight should be very balanced instead of blade heavy like the machete. Heavy weight is not necessary because the katana. This is due to its use of slicing instead of chopping like less refined weapons.
Notes
It should be noted that the Katana is a weapon that requires special care and training. If the blade is not well maintained, it will quickly rust and become dull. There are also special techniques used to attack with this weapon. These methods must be followed or the blade can be permanently damaged. Should you choose this weapon, you will want to look into this further.
So basically, the katana (if used correctly) can be an extremely deadly weapon for slayin’ zombies. Although you will have to train a lot to become proficient, but you should want to do this with any weapon you own. We do not believe you can but a better single purpose zombie slaying weapon. However, you should also look into melee weapons that have dual purposes as well.

You are misinformed, the training fors use correctly a Katana begin at very young age, and continue for 15-20 years, if you are not trained you cant use it so god, you can break the blade if you hit too hard, and the katana found on ebay, is not a very katana, is not tamahagane, is spring steel, and has the same sharp of a good machete but at 5 time his price.
A cheap katana cold cost 400$ (and is not tamahagane) a good bolo machete is 50/70$ a first class ghurka kukry is 170$ and it not requires special training for use, a REAL katana cost 2.000.+$
A katana require 2 hand, a machete, a cutlass, a falchion, require 1 hand, whit the other you can use a light, for example, you know, for see in the dark whitout ninja superpower.
Seriously, you are nerd? you belive is a good idea take a spring steel katana from ebay, put on your pejama and sandals for kill a zombie? what is the next idea, shuriken?
I think what Pepe was trying (and failing) to communicate was that the katana is both more difficult to use and much more difficult to procure, both because of its inflated price and the vast range of useless decorative pieces. That being said, a katana in the $300-$400 range made of spring steel will ALWAYS be stronger than a traditional tamahagane blade. There are better steels out there, but tempered 5160 or T-10 are more than a match for a spine.
As far as training is concerned, the relatively unique geometry of properly shaped katana makes it difficult to cut true with one under battlefield conditions without at least a few years training with one. On that note, something that both the article and Pepe failed to mention is the actual cross section of the edge; due to the way it is formed, no quick sharpening tool will do more than destroy the edge of a katana-they must be maintained by hand.
TL:DR
Katana are great if you know what you’ve got and what you’re doing, otherwise get a machette.
I agree. You need to know your skills and limitations of the katana. Without the proper skills your katana could break or even get stuck in the zombies head. Train before use.
